New York NORCs Resources
Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) are particular areas such as housing complexes, apartments and neighborhoods where there are an abundance of senior citizens living in a specific community. These areas were not planned to be retirement or senior housing communities; because of the practice of “aging in place” – living in the same home for an extended period of time instead of moving to another senior living facility – seniors are tending to stay in their same houses or complexes where they have lived most of their lives. As a result, NORC programs offer a variety of services to the seniors living in those designated areas, such as medical services, social services, recreation, education activities, and financial services. Please see below to determine if your community is a NORC community. If so, we encourage you to contact your NORC to learn about the various services available to you.
